Orange Juice Cake (Doolshe Casiir Leh) Gâteau au Jus d’Orange كيك بعصير البرتقال

Orange Juice Cake (Doolshe Casiir Leh) Gâteau au Jus d’Orange كيك بعصير البرتقال

We had to bake this cake three times for this post. It wasn’t because it did not come out right the first time. When we first baked it last Friday, we could not resist and we had it with tea while still warm and without the glaze. We then baked it on Saturday, poured the glaze on top, sprinkled it with shredded coconut and in it went into the fridge for chilling. Guess what? We had guests come over and the cake was consumed before we got a chance to take pictures for the post. The consolation was that everyone liked it so much.

On Sunday, we got to work on it very early and it was in the fridge by noon. Three hours later, the video was completed and the pictures taken. We made some really good tea, had the cake for the third day in a row, and relaxed. Ahhh, life is good… And we thank God.

    Assalamo alaykum.

Your Orange Juice Cake comes just in good time. We will have two Somali friends coming over for dinner this weekend. I was thinking about baking a nice cake and this Orange Juice cake sounds great ! But can I use cake flour instead of All purpose flour ? If I serve only four people, should I just cut the quantity into half ?

Thank you for your sharing. I really love your website. Now I am so proud to cook Somali food for my family. Celmah

      Wa’alaikum As-salam Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
You can use cake flour instead of all-purpose flour. For 1 cup all-purpose flour, substitute 1 cup and 2 Tbsp cake flour. If you are serving four people, you can cut the ingredients by half. Thank you very much for your comment.

I am doing a presentation about Somalia culture for one of my college courses and would love to make this for my peers to try. My question is this, since cupcakes would be more practical, how much glaze should I put in each cupcake? I don’t want to drown them and then not have them taste how they should.

    Thank you for your help,
    Ce Ce Ferrell

It will depend on the size of cupcakes that you bake. Divide the two cups of glaze by the number of cupcakes. Thanks for the question.

Next time take out the cake from the mould before you pour the glaze, then put it back in and pour the glaze. It will be easier to invert it into the serving dish. We are happy your family loved it. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Waa ku mahadsan tahay ducada fiican. Waxyaabo badan ayaa keena inuu dusha ka dillaaco. 1- Qasidda badan. Lama rabo wax badan in la qaso, sababtoo ah burka noocaan “gluten” ayuu leeyahay haddii wax badan la qaso gluten-kiisa ayaa soo baxaaya markaad dubaysid dillaac ayuu keenaa. 2- Cajiinka oo culus. Lama rabo cabbirada inay qalad galaan, saliidda, ukunta ama casiirka hadduu ku yaraado cajiinka wuu culusaanayaa, taasna wey keenaysaa inuu dilaaco. 3- Kulayka foornada oo aad u badan. Lama rabo foornada inay aad u kulushahay iyo meesha ugu saraysa in lagu dubo. 4- Lama rabo baking powder-ka inuu ku bato. Intaas haddaad iska ilaalisid insha’Allaah wuu fiicnaanaayaa.

    Salamu alaykum,

Hello, the cake looks brilliant and I think I am going to make it this Friday. Although, I was just wondering, can I substitute canola oil with palm oil? Also, if I use one egg less from the original recipe what will happened to my cake? Can I add milk in this recipe, how much? Thank you in advance.

      Wa’alaikum Assalam Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
You can use palm oil instead of canola oil if you wish, but the eggs are important. If you make all those changes then you will end up with a totally different recipe.

Thanks for your advice. I made this cake just now and it came out perfectly. I followed the recipe exactly but only substitute canola oil with palm oil. While the cake bakes, my husband told me, are you baking something because the house smells good. He tested the cake and loved it. Masha Allah, you made into a good baker. Thank you very much. May Allah bless your good work!! Jazzakum Allahu Khayr.
