We crave this pasta. That is the only way to describe it. You know when you crave a certain food, nothing else satisfies. Whatever else you eat will fill your stomach but you will still feel hungry in a strange way. Have you ever foraged in the kitchen not long after a meal? Know that you are not alone.
The craving for this pasta has no schedule and it just hits us without warning. But who needs advanced warning for tuna pasta when the ingredients are always available in our pantry. No basil? Substitute with parsley or cilantro. Parsley, in fact, is what Italians use in this dish but we like it with basil. That preference followed us from Somalia. No parmesan cheese? No problem. The dish will still taste great.
W have seen recipes for tuna pasta where the pasta swims in a sea of red tomato sauce. Tastes vary. We like to taste chunks of fresh tomatoes, olives, tuna, garlic, fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil, and parmesan cheese. It is simple, it is fresh, and it is delicious.
The recipe calls for peeled and seeded tomatoes. It is a personal preference and you can definitely use the whole tomato. We do not always peel and seed tomatoes, especially when we are making hearty stews and soups.

Thanks for a very nice recipe! I tried it and loved it. When I found your blog some weeks ago I also tried the egg salad and cardamom cookies recipe. Cookies were good too but this was best! I like how you make videos of the recipes and the whole site looks so professional. You really put your heart into this! What a great job you are doing.
